Structural valve degeneration: are there common mechanisms with atherosclerosis and calcific aortic stenosis?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Current research shows that some of the pathogenetic processes behind structural destruction bioprosthetic valves are largely similar to those involved in development atherosclerotic vascular lesions and native valve calcification. These include lipid leukocyte infiltration, typical for both prosthetic tissues. They accompanied by formation foam cells, excessive production matrix-degrading enzymes increased oxidative stress. This fact suggests approaches conservative treatment atherosclerosis may be useful prolonging lifespan valves.

Mechanisms of Angiogenesisand Lymphangiogenesis in Calcific Aortic Valve Stenosis

Aortic valve stenosis (AVS) is the most common valvular disease in Western countries. Pharmacological prevention of AVS having proved unsuccessful, its current treatment is still valve replacement. The etiology of AVS is multifactorial, both genetic and external risk factors predisposing to the active pathological process eventually leading to clinically manifest stenosis. Histological features...

Novel indices in calcific aortic valve stenosis.

T wo main causes of aortic stenosis are rheumatic involvement of the valve, observed primarily in developing countries, and calcification of the valve (calcific aortic stenosis, CAS) without the apparent involvement of an infective process. The latter is thought of as a chronically progressive “degenerative” disease of calcium deposition and subclinical inflammation akin in nature to atheroscle...

Kinking of the aorta with calcific aortic valve stenosis.

Kinking or buckling of the aorta is uncommon. The combination of a kinked aorta with severe calcific aortic valve stenosis is very unusual. The importance of recognizing kinking of the aorta lies in the fact that it can mimic other more serious conditions, such as a mediastinal tumour, aortic aneurysm, or coarctation. One of the earliest cases reported was diagnosed as Hodgkin's disease of the ...

Stentless Bioprostheses for Aortic Valve Replacement in Calcific Aortic Stenosis

The classic case of aortic stenosis is a healthy middle-aged patient with/without symptoms, but in practical life, patients with severe calcific aortic valve come with several and severe comorbidities such as advanced age, coronary artery disease, atherosclerotic aorta, significant left ventricular dysfunction. Aortic valve replacement (AVR) is the only options in these patients, and it require...

Severe Calcific Aortic Valve Stenosis and Bleeding: Heyde's Syndrome

In 1958 Dr. Edward C. Heyde, an internist living and working in Vancouver, WA, first reported in a letter to the New England Journal of Medicine, 10 cases of calcific aortic stenosis and grastrointestinal bleeding. The association between severe calcific aortic stenosis and iron deficency anemia due gastrointestinal bleeding, from colonic angiodysplasia was described as Heyde syndrome. A letter...
